What does the D mean when you are looking at a Nylon 600D case?

The D means "denier" which is a unit of measurement of the English System that describes the mass in grams per 9,000 meters of fiber.

The "denier" is a good measure of strength and durability when comparing two products of the same material. For example, a 400D nylon bag is not as strong as a 600D nylon bag. However, when you are comparing between different materials (e.g. nylon and polyester) all materials are not the same. Nylon is a stronger material than Polyester, i.e. a 420D Nylon product is stronger than a 600D polyester product.
